Abstract
This paper is concerned with plastic analysis of framed structures. It briefly surveys some of the new advances in structural plasticity and discusses how they are put into practical use, through appropriate computer software, to satisfy the needs of structural analysts and designers.

Recent contributions in structural plasticity, go beyond the restrictions brought by the simple plastic theory. They, in addition to the determination of the collapse load, allow the assessment of many other structural response situations. It is stressed that, these can be incorporated, in problem formulation and solution, through the joint use of realistic modeling techniques, discrete structural plasticity, mathematical programming, numerical algorithms and computer software.

An example is given which illustrates the historical plastic analysis of a structure which is mixed in material and form.
