Abstract
This paper discusses a field study, which identified typical tasks of engineering design as they are practised. The study included observations and interviews in a Danish consulting engineering firm, and ten basic task classes were identified. Finally, perspectives of these classes on computer based design tools are drawn, along with an outline of the future application of the classification system.
