Abstract
Models of the design product and design process are important conceptual steps in the development of integrated computer-aided design systems. A design product model organizes information about the design product into well-defined entities. A design process model organizes the design process into well-defined activities. The paper presents research toward integrated product and process models for structural engineering in which each entity in the product model describes information created and used by certain activities in the process model, and each activity in the process model is described as operations on certain entities in the product model.
