Summary
This paper describes an extensive research activity carried out at University of Genova, with the aim of developing an integrated system for the risk management of complex systems under extreme wind actions. The project includes in situ monitoring, numerical simulation of wind fields, statistical analysis and wind forecast algorithms. The monitoring and forecasting systems work out operative results in a continuous mode, made directly available to the port operators through a web-based geographic information system, integrated within a global system for safety and operational management.
