Summary
A basic survey of two public research projects in the Czech Republic and their
participants are presented in this paper. It also provides details of the activity
samples, which were shared by the authors of this paper. The research and
development was carried out mainly in co-operation with ŠKODA. Passive safety of
the new locomotive was resolved according to the requirements of new European
regulations. Various simulations of the vehicle aerodynamics, ventilation and air
conditioning were performed using computational fluid dynamics software. Progress
was also achieved in the field of strength and fatigue life, such as the
implementation of multi-axial tests of bogie frames.
