Summary
The fuel cell generation system converts fuel source to electricity in an electro chemical process. The process of fuel cell generation is different from conventional turbine engines. It can generate the electricity without burning the fuel and running pistons or shaft, and does not have revolutionary machine, so have fewer efficiency losses, low emissions and no noisy moving parts. Traction power supply systems have a lot of power quality problems, because of moving and concentrated train loads. Fluctuated voltage and current in this system can be compensated by fuel cell generation connection as a high power density allows fuel cells to be a relatively compact source of electric power, beneficial in application with space constraints. In this paper, a fuel cell system and traction power supply system has been modelled by PSCAD/EMTDC to analyse its electrical characteristics. The power quality of traction power supply systems with fuel cell generation has been evaluated.
