Summary
The problem of high explosive materials and the development of structures resistant to shock waves have become important as a result of increasing terrorist activities in recent years. The principal objective of the research presented in this paper was to develop energy absorption protective covers for I-beam supporting structures. The dynamic response of structural components for different load cases, with multimaterial protective panels and without any protection, subjected to blast was determined. As a result of insufficient protection provided by the original design of the blast panels, the I-beam and panel structure were reinforced by adopting materials with higher mechanical strength parameters. The results of the analyses indicate that the application of the modified blast panel around the supporting structure increases the resistance and significantly reduces the plastic deformation of the structure.
