Abstract
Sewer rehabilitation is becoming a subject of major importance to structural designers working in the field of public health engineering. This has led to the comprehensive manual recently published by the Water Research centre Engineering and to a stimulus in research activities on the various aspects of structural behaviour of sewers and/or thin linings.

The present paper describes the research work carried out on sewer renovation at the Department of Civil Engineering at Imperial College. This consists primarily of both material and structural testing as well as numerical modelling of egg-shaped sewer linings. While the main emphasis is on aspects relevant to installation conditions, long-term behaviour is also considered. Finally, a brief outline of work done on the related topic of circular linings and pipes is given.
