Abstract
Two numerical algorithms for the calculation of the static response of pretensioned cable networks are described. One algorithm uses a Stiffness Matrix formulation based on a linear model; the other employs a Dynamic Relaxation method, and uses a Finite Difference approximation. A comparative study of the efficiency and the rates of convergence of the two algorithms is carried out, when applied to specific cable net structures. The results of the study are discussed with reference to suitability of the methods for practical applications.
