Abstract
Over the past few years a number of significant construction projects have been completed in Australia with a noticeable trend towards an increasing utilisation of lightweight construction and lightweight structures techniques. Amongst them are sports buildings, exhibition buildings, multipurpose buildings, museums, open air entertainment facilities and tourist resorts. A selection of representative examples are presented and include prestressed and air-supported membrane structures, stayed and framed steel structures: EXPO 88 Shade Structures, Burswood Island Multipurpose Hall, Darling Harbour Exhibition Halls and National Maritime Museum, Sydney Stadium, Yulara Tourist Resort, the Mobile and Bicentennial Open-air Stages and the Bicentennial Travelling Exhibition.
