Abstract
The paper presents two theoretical and two experimental investigations into the vibration of three varying thickness thin-walled circular cylinders. One of the investigations was in air and the other was while the vessels were subjected to external water pressure.

The theoretical analyses were via the finite element method for both the theoretical investigations. Comparison between experiment and theory was excellent for the in-air investigation and very good for the in-water investigation.
