Abstract
The paper presents the results of a research project, currently
under way in the Institute of Structural Analysis
and Aseismic Research of NTUA, referring to the problem
of earthquake resistant design of buildings. The main
tasks of the project are the investigation of specific parameters
of the problem and the incorporation of these
new research results in the VK.EXPERT, a program for
preliminary aseismic design of reinforced concrete multi-storey
buildings. This aim is achieved by proposing to the
designer the necessary improvements relating to the configuration
and sizes of the structural elements of a reinforced
concrete building. It comprises five modules. Following
an open system architecture, each module is developed
and tested as a stand-alone program and then integrated
into the main program. VK.EXPERT is developed
as a commercial programme that will be used in real-world
building design by Greek engineers.
