Abstract
Parallel computational concepts for the structural optimization of geometrically nonlinear truss structures are described. The parallelism in the nonlinear structural analysis and associated sensitivity analysis is based on decomposition of the loading environment into individual load cases and of the structural system into substructures. The partition of the set of design variables into subsets provides a third level of parallelism. The optimization problem is parallelized based on decomposition into suboptimization problems and their coordination. As an example for the application of the parallel analysis and optimization methods the design problem of a wide span roof truss is solved.
