Abstract
The transitional period from the use of main frame and mini computers to the use of microcomputers has created another surge in re-training civil engineers in computer applications, computer usage and computerized management systems.

The effects of developments in the use of microcomputers on instructors, students and practising engineers is assessed in civil engineering departments of North American universities with reference to a large American civil engineering department and a medium sized Canadian civil engineering department. Emphasis is placed on the application of microcomputers in the field of construction management.
