Abstract
A rectangular anisotropic plate element suitable for stability and vibration analysis of thin composite laminates is presented. The formulation of the element is semi-analytical and is based on the Transfer Matrix Method (TMM). The suitability of the element is evaluated by its application on certain stability and vibration problems of anisotropic plates. Numerical results are presented and compared to results obtained from analytical and Finite Element (FE) solutions. The semi-analytical formulation of the proposed element reflects on the accuracy of the results and on the reduction of the number of degrees of Freedom required in the analysis compared to FE method.
