Abstract
Hereby a procedure for the nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete frames taking into account the nonlinear properties of materials and second order effects, is briefly described.

This method is based on a matrix analysis of the structure with elements of variable-stiffness distribution. The stiffness law is defined in accordance with the mechanical properties of the section, the bending moments distribution and the corresponding moment-curvature relationship. This system fulfills the equilibrium and compatibility - conditions in all the sections and would be equivalent to a very close discretization.

Finally, an example is shown in order to indicate the significance of different discretization methods on moments and deflections results.
