Abstract
Recently the civil engineering works are increasingly large in size and scale. In case a mountain is cut for road construction, it is necessary to select carefully the most stable, aesthetic and workable protection structure. In that selection civil engineers should be assisted by an expert system that makes use of microcomputer.

In the present paper, an expert system using microcomputer is formulated and evaluated through actual field data. A microcomputer expert shell is used for the easy formulation of an expert system. Factors for selecting slope-protection structures are weighted by using the AHP (Analysis Hierarchy Process). Selection conditions in need of the subjective analysis are judged by using the idea of membership function.
