Abstract
Inherent in the fully explicit u-w formulation is the critical time step, which serves as a threshold for the stability of the scheme. This critical time step is theoretically shown, under one dimensional elastic conditions, to bear an inverse square root relationship with the fluid bulk modulus. The effect of varying the fluid bulk modulus on the critical time steps, and consequently the CPU times is investigated. The accuracy of the solutions is compared with results obtained from a centrifuge experiment.
