Abstract
Project EPITOME (Engineering Platform for Intelligent TutOrs and Multimedia Experiences) is a research and development activity located in the School of Civil Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The focus of the project is to create and evaluate educational software for engineering and science domains. One such tool is ITS-Engineering, an intelligent tutoring shell for engineering incorporating multimedia extensions to allow the development of applications which disseminate engineering knowledge. This paper provides an overview of the research activities, how these activities can make a valuable contribution to engineering, and what implications these kinds of environments may have to engineering.
