Summary
Local abrasion and stripping often appear when a wheel brakes hard or slips during the operation of the high speed train. It is defined as a wheel flat. The theories of vehicles; track coupling dynamics; and elastic bodies rolling contact with the non-Hertzian contact are used to establish a high-speed train dynamic model considering a wheel flat. On the basis of the high speed train model, the study of the influence of the geometrical size of the flat and velocity on the dynamic behavior of the vehicle system is investigated. The results show that wheel flat of high-speed trains have a tremendous effect on the wheel-rail impact and the wheelset vertical excitation. Under the action of a wheel flat, the wheel-rail vertical force and the axle wheelset vertical vibration acceleration responses are much higher than the normal values. As a result of this, the effect of the primary or secondary suspension's low frequency filter, weakens the influence of the wheel flat excitation on the frame and the carbody.
