Abstract
This paper outlines a research project for investigating and designing a framework for intelligent linkage between design drawings and other information system environments. This framework will incorporate mechanisms for the interpretation and representation of geometrical and non-geometrical entities included in drawings. The framework will also provide intelligent links to external data bases at the preliminary design stage. Providing such information at this stage will allow designers to carry out the rapid evaluation of design alternatives, analysis and decision making in a multi-disciplinary, multi-agent design environment. The objectives of the research are outlined, the methodology is discussed and the first application results are demonstrated.
