Summary
This paper describes the development and outlines of the derailment-rollover-crash (DRC) detector, its derailment detecting performance (DDR) which has been proven at actual accidents. It also outlines the details of the detector and discusses its concept and effectiveness. The DRC detector has been developed using significant knowledge learnt from the Nakameguro derailment accident of 2000 and the Amagasaki derailment accident of 2005. As a result of learning from these actual severe accidents, knowledge was clarified that the train crew cannot recognize the derailment and activate the safety devices of his/her train in an accident.
The developed DRC detector detects derailment, rollover, and crash/collision automatically by five algorithms verified in experiments and simulations. After detection, the DRC activates the train protection radio (TPR) in each driver's cab to prevent the collision with an oncoming train, and also informs the train monitoring system. The DRC detectors have actually detected the derailment, rollover, crash at both the Sagamiko derailment accident of 2013 and the Kawasaki derailment accident of 2014. By these detections in actual accidents, the concepts and effectiveness of the DRC detector have been proved. purchase the full-text of this paper (price £22)
