Summary
Inverse problems can be used in many ways in civil engineering analysis. Using
observations from a system, one can determine the parameters that best fit the data.
In this paper, a deterministic approach to the inverse problem theory is applied to
estimate the parameters of a timber-concrete slab-type structure using its static
response. An optimization method is associated with a numerical structural analysis
procedure to find the parameters such as connection stiffness and Young's modulus.
A study of the influence of uncertainties and inaccuracies is made in a postestimation
analysis context. The sensitivity of the parameters to the amount of data
used and the initial value of the parameters is considered. The results show an
important influence of these uncertainties, since the differences between numerical
and experimental responses are significant.
