Summary
This paper presents the results of a study on calculating the natural frequencies and modes of a square plate with a square hole using the Rayleigh-Ritz Method by embedding a negative structure into a larger positive structure. The "negative structure" is a structure which has negative values for both the stiffness and mass terms and has the same natural frequencies and modes as those of its positive counterpart. The embedding constraints are enforced using the penalty method.
