Summary
This paper presents a data-driven framework, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, to assess wheel defect detection and identification; and to compare the fault classification accuracy of different techniques using statistical equivalence testing, based on operating and maintenance history. The method is based on the appraisal of the capabilities of current railway wheel inspection approaches.
