Summary
This paper presents the method and results of the optimization of railway transition curves. The software used is a combination of the authors' own railway vehicle dynamics simulation software and a procedure from the optimization library. Corresponding quality functions concern measures of wear in the wheel/rail contact. The decision variables are polynomial coefficients defining transition curve shape. Sixth, Eighth and Tenth degree polynomials are considered. Results of the optimization are compared. Reference to the influence of the order of the polynomial terms and the geometrical demands on the results is made.
