Summary
The railway infrastructure in and around the city of Mechelen is subject to several works to optimize the track configuration before and after the station. This track configuration is highly determined by the presence of four steel railway Vierendeel bridges with slab track. Due to the track configuration, a new type of slab track is to be installed. Various boundary conditions make the design of this type of slab track difficult. The boundary conditions lead to a modulated box-shaped design of slab track that can be equipped with noise reducing measures. The aim is to design a slab track that can be generally used for the replacement of existing slab tracks in the Belgian railway infrastructure.
