Summary
In the case of ballasted tracks on the soft roadbeds, where the bearing capacities are
insufficient, track irregularities become larger due to the excessive settlement of
sleepers. To reduce the settlement of sleepers, it is effective to improve the roadbed
with high-strength material such as well compacted crushed-stone. However, these
conventional roadbed improvement methods are not widely applied because their
execution costs are high. To deal with this problem, we proposed a new roadbed
improvement method that reuses degraded ballast with flash setting cement grout
injection. Proposed method reduces the execution cost and working time. To
confirm the performance of proposed method, uniaxial compression tests and real
scale cyclic loading tests were conducted. On the basis of those test results, the new
roadbed improvement method was applied to the site during the train operation.
After the application of roadbed improvement at the site, the condition of the track
was improved and track irregularity became less.
