Summary
This paper focuses on the research of hunting instability criteria for two bifurcation
types of vehicles. Firstly, the influence of track excitations on bifurcation graph is
considered and a method of applying track excitation added with lateral impulse is
proposed. Then, According to various criteria including the amplitude of limit
cycles, RMS value of bogie frame acceleration and RMS value of the sum of
guiding force, the hunting instability assessment is compared. The safety assessment
of two vehicles after limit cycle instability is conducted. Thus, the safety domain of
two vehicles can be determined respectively. Besides, the hunting instability and
running safety assessment for worn wheel profile vehicles are also studied. Finally,
the stability tests on full scale roller rig are conducted to compare different criteria
and validate the simulation result.
