Summary
This paper is focused on a comparison of linear and nonlinear computer simulation for the development of an advanced facade system. One of the most important issues of the present construction is to increase the energy efficiency of existing buildings. This cannot be achieved without large scale industrialization of the building process. The KNAUF Company required computer support for the development of a new facade panel. The structure of the panel consists of a very thin steel profiles. Analysis of the behavior of such a system must take into account the geometric nonlinearity of the structural system. A sensitivity analysis was performed, which allowed the optimal design of a new series of advanced panels. The realized virtual design saved a large number of experiments and considerably speeded up the development. The developed panel will be tested under wind load. The test results will then be used for validation of the computer model.
