Abstract
Computer Aided Design is a rapidly evolving technology which promises to improve the quality and to reduce the cost of products whilst bringing them to market sooner. The major areas of CAD and some typical advantages and applications are examined, as well as the reasons why CAD is still somewhat slow in its widespread acceptance in industry. The factors which may be behind this reticence are discussed and future trends in user-machine interfaces and user-friendliness of systems are described.
