Abstract
Early efforts in the application of microcomputers to civil engineering construction problems have concentrated on using the microcomputer as a project management tool for payroll, inventory, and overall scheduling operations. Recently development of microcomputer software of the type that might be used on the jobsite to improve worker safety has been considered. Some specific applications considered thus far concern the structural analysis of scaffold systems, the analysis of reinforced concrete systems for construction load cases, and design of trenches. Although these applications are somewhat limited, and may not be ready for field usage in their present forms, they demonstrate the potential for identifying hazards at the construction jobsite.
