Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary results of an investigation into the feasibility of using a microcomputer to perform the numerical analysis of consolidation problems. Terzaghi's one dimensional equation is chosen as a benchmark problem and a solution sought using the finite element method. The results are encouraging but some limitations are encountered.
