Abstract
A brief review of the need for the accurate monitoring of the disturbance caused by blasting operations is presented.

The development of a system to enable a large quarrying organisation to monitor the ground vibration and air overpressure caused by blasting operations is described.

The on-site recordings are made on magnetic tape using proprietary equipment. Processing of the playback from the tapes is done by means of an analogue to digital converter linked to a microcomputer. Use is made of interactive graphic techniques to enable the operator to select the appropriate portions of the signals to be, analysed for peak velocity and for frequency spectra.

Examples of the results obtained from an actual blast are presented.
