Abstract
Questions raised in this paper are related to an analysis and design of deformable bodies and structures from brittle or quasi-brittle materials. We consider the problem of finding the shape of the body having the smallest possible mass, subject to appropriate constraints on statical strength and rigidity and on the number of cycles for fatigue cracks in the case of cyclic loading. The results of optimization (analytical and numerical) are presented and discussed for various structures and structural elements.
