Abstract
The paper is concerned with a computational module for the analysis of coupled water, non-aqueous phase liquid chemical (NAPL), gas and heat flow in unsaturated and saturated soil. Its name is POLLUT_TRANSPORT and it has been recently developed in the "Advanced Tool for Engineering Non-linear Analysis" (ATENA) environment. The paper presents all equations governing the fluids and heat flow in the model. Main interest is focussed on improvements of numerical procedure for solution of multiphase flow governing equations, namely use of Primary variable switching scheme and a method for reducing solution oscillations by introducing eta "dumping" factor. Programming aspects of coding the present pollution transport module and the ATENA environments are briefly discussed, too. Finally, a sample numerical analysis of a laboratory experiment for move of a spill of diesel in partially saturated soil is presented. (Preparation of the experiment is currently in progress.) The results demonstrate positive effect of making use of the eta parameter.
