Abstract
The development of new engineering products is often a complex, expensive, time-consuming process and many firms have adopted Concurrent Engineering in a bid to overcome these problems.

Computer technology can be used to develop systems to support Concurrent Engineering. A versioning system is needed to capture the changes to each of the artefacts that make up a product and to provide a controlled environment for change, but an effective change notification system is also necessary to ensure that team members are notified of relevant changes.

This paper proposes that a process-based approach is required to provide the flexibility needed to support change notification and describes two types of process models: Change Process Models and Development Process Models.
