Abstract
Robust reliability is a new non-probabilistic theory of reliability
of mechanical systems. It is based on information-gap
models of uncertainty which express the gap between
what is known and what needs to be known. The theory
is applied to the analysis of an infinitely long beam which
rests on a foundation with uncertain properties. The beam
is subjected to a moving constant force. A numerical example
shows the application of the idea to the theoretical
model of the rail.
