Abstract
Strength Reduction Factors (SRFs) that Permit estimation of inelastic strength demands from elastic strength demands are evaluated and assessed. In recent 20 years, various studies are performed on SRF mostly on SDOF systems. While in SDOF systems, the SRFs depend on the system dynamic characteristics ( i.e. structural period, displacement ductility ratio, damping and hysteretic behaviour ) and on the ground motion input, in MDOF systems, in addition to the above mentioned parameters, depend on the number, the amount of plastic deformation and the distribution of degrees of freedom (DOFs) through height of the structures being simultaneously in inelastic region. These effects are studied and assessed in this paper and a three-dimensional curve is presented on the basis of statistical study on 134 output data which describes the relationship between the above mentioned parameters. Comparison the results to those of another investigators and the Codes are the last part of this paper.
