Abstract
As part of the modernisation and upgrading of the Marine Terminal facilities of the Esso Fawley Refinery, the following modification works have been carried out:
It is not a normal practice to use a sophisticated analysis such as finite element analysis for the design of civil/structural works in the petro-chemical industry. A traditional hand calculation method deemed to be sufficient for the design. By using the finite element analysis, major modifications to the structures were averted, which lead to considerable saving in construction cost and time. purchase the full-text of this paper (price £20)
