Abstract
The need for time-harmonic acoustic analysis in unbounded domains is frequent in engineering practice. Such problems are unacceptable for direct numerical computation. Therefore various techniques for representing an unbounded domain are developed. In this work an infinite element technique is developed based on an analytical solution inside the element and variational enforcement of continuity on element boundaries. Using this approach two-dimensional infinite elements are developed and their performance is tested on various problems. Spectral analysis of the finite element method is performed, and errors of finite element solutions are evaluated.
