Abstract
This work deals with the study of numerical methods for consideration of the nonlinear behaviour of framed structures, with particular attention on tubular structures like those employed to support offshore platforms for oil exploitation. A formulation for a three-dimensional elastic-plastic frame element is studied, employing the concept of concentrated plasticity by means of the plastic hinge approach. The solution strategy incorporates the implementation of a version of the cylindrical arc-length method to guarantee that a limit point was reached. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the implementation.
