Abstract
Experimental tests on reinforced concrete slabs with different boundary conditions have been used in a finite element simulation process to develop reliable prediction models, each model representing a class of slabs and having a unique set of parameter values and computational conditions. The finite element models have been used in the prediction of a large number of 'numerical model' slabs resulting from the combination of various geometric and material properties. The data of ultimate loads and corresponding deflections generated, and the equations developed are used to develop a knowledge based system for obtaining design information on arbitrary slabs having different boundary conditions. The resulting software could be used for teaching and design purposes.
