Abstract
Shape finding of cable-membrane structures has been
widely discussed in the literature. A number of methods
for surface shape determination have been proposed,
which may be used to find the equilibrium state of the
structure at specified stress levels and for prescribed
boundary conditions. In recent papers the
dynamic relaxation method has been used as a shape finding
method. In previous papers of the present
authors several strategies have been developed and considered
for the parallelisation of the dynamic relaxation
method. These strategies result in faster solution
and shorter execution time of the design. The "speed-up"
permits a second level of parallelism to appear providing
the possibility for parametric studies of the design executed
in parallel fashion. The introduction of parallel
computing influences the whole process of the design. In
this paper some of the problems that arose from the parallelisation
of the design of cable-membrane structures and
their solution will be presented.
