Abstract
A two-dimensional accurate algorithm for a 9-point
scheme is formulated. The formula approximate solutions
of deflection of plates resting on elastic foundations.
The truncation error for the suggested scheme is of the
sixth-order on a square mesh and of the fourth-order
on an unequally spaced mesh. The difference in the
accuracy as compared to that of the standard finite difference
formula, having an accuracy of the second-order,
is significant. To the best of our knowledge a numerical
algorithm for approximating the equation under consideration
using a 9-point scheme which has an accuracy
of the order of h6 does not exist in the open literature.
In the following the algorithm and the method yielding
the algorithm will be introduced. Examples with various
boundary conditions are considered. In order to
demonstrate the high-order accuracy of the method, the
numerical results are compared with the exact solution.
