Abstract
The dynamic analysis of structures obtains increasing
importance, because the structures get more and more light-weighted and slender, particularly the in the field of steel
construction. The behaviour of joints and interfaces between
structural parts that allow relative displacement or rotations is
of great interest. During dynamic events with impact loads or
persistent loads with deterministic and stochastic effects,
contact areas that transmit forces may be subject to variations.
This paper deals with a new technique to simulate contact-impact problems between bodies in multibody-systems (MBS)
that is similar to the distinct element method (DEM) in that the
problem domain is divided into a system of blocks. Some
examples are given for demonstrating the use of the contact-element with the computer program MEPHISTO.
