Abstract
The objective of this research is to develop an integrated
hybrid computer aided learning environment for training
students in architectural engineering and architecture for
energy conscious design.
This computer aided learning program allows simultaneous learning strategies (deductive, inductive and analogy approaches) relying on the cooperation of different established computer science techniques. This environment uses state-of-the-art computer advanced technologies (including 3D modeling, analysis procedures, artificial intelligence and knowledge models, graphical components and hypermedia) necessary to match the complex problem solving context of building design and to encode real-life building design situations into tools to improve the skills of students, i.e., future designers, in basic solving of architectural engineering problems linked to energy conscious design. The outcome of the project is a prototype CAL program available on the UNIX workstations of CU-Boulder's Bechtel CAD Lab and Ecole d'Architecture de Toulouse. purchase the full-text of this paper (price £20)
