Abstract
The paper applies some of the computational methods, used in safety critical aspects of aircraft or vehicle design against impact damage, to develop the tools for a creating a computational forensic model for the investigation of impact-damaged lamp posts. A particular aim being to identify from the damaged remains illegal high initial impact velocities. An explicit finite element code, DYNA 3D, and associated graphics software is used for the analysis and preliminary plotted results are presented.
