Abstract
This paper explores the impact that Information Technology is having on the Structural Engineering profession. It is based on data obtained from a study of UK Engineers undertaken by the Institution of Structural Engineers. There is evidence that firms are not taking a uniform approach to the implementation of new technology and that there are significant variations in infiltration depending on size of organisation, especially with Computer Aided Draughting (CAD). The strategic implications are investigated along with the proposition that Information Technology will lead to a restructuring of firms in the sector.
