Abstract
In the present work, a method for the dynamic analysis of structures consisting of superimposed blocks, is presented. The hypotheses made are those of rigid blocks and monolateral Winkler-type deformable joints. Each joint, made of separate infinitesimal springs, is assumed to be non resistant to tensile stress and rigid to shear deformation. Using the total Lagrangian approach the equation of motion, in the perturbed form is obtained and the analysis carried out till buckling occurs. The equation of motion takes into account the non linearities caused by contact conditions in the actual configuration. Then, a particular integration method, derived by the central difference method, is presented and some numerical examples, showing the dynamic response of an ancient Greek temple to harmonic loads are reported.
